What is an Antacid?

An antacid is any substance, generally a base or basic salt which neutralizes stomach acidity.

Antacids are used to relieve acid indigestion, upset stomach, sour stomach and heartburn.

Common Symptoms of Acidity Or GERD

Heartburn

Regurgitation

Chest pain

Difficulty in swallowing

Lump in throat

If you have nighttime acid reflux, you might also experience:

Chronic cough

Laryngitis with hoarseness

New or worsening asthma

Disrupted sleep

How does an antacid work?

  • Antacids perform a neutralization reaction. i.e. they buffer gastric acid by raising the pH to reduce the acidity in the stomach.
  • When gastric hydrochloric acid reaches the nerves in the gastrointestinal mucosa. They signal pain to the central nervous system. This happens when these nerves are exposed, as in peptic ulcers. The gastric acid may also reach ulcers in the esophagus or duodenum and cause heart burn and regurgitation or acid reflux.
  • Antacids by virtue of its neutralizing action reduces pain and heartburn as well as discomfort.

Relief From Acidity / Heartburn

Rapid Neutralization of Stomach Acid by *NaHCO3, & Inhibition of H. Pylori by Citric Acid

  • Reduced Acid Damage To Esophagus Due To Reflux (Backflow) of Neutralized Stomach Acid (pH ≥ 3.5)
  • *NaHCO3 in FizzBeer Dissociates to Produce HCO3, Which Neutralizes Stomach Acid (H+) Rapidly, Within Minutes, to Normal pH (≥ 3.5)
  • Citric Acid Inhibits H. Pylori bacteria (in Vitro), which could reduce acid secretion
  • Relief From Symptoms of Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)
  • Rapid Neutralization of Stomach Acid by *NaHCO3, & Inhibition of H. Pylori by Citric Acid present in FizzBeer
